Appearance:
Standing at about 5’3”/160cm, Takao’s actually a fairly short kid, despite his larger-than-life attitude. He’s tanned from his frequent running about outside, and lean from that same source of exercise in addition to being a practicing student of kendo for most of his young life. His dark, dark blue hair is approximately mid-back long and seems to have a life of its own, with what can be gathered tied into a low ponytail and what can’t sticking out in a number of directions. Inexplicably, his hair tends to be somewhat tamer when his trademark baseball cap is off, rather than on. His eyes are brown.

Back Story:
Before I say anything, it’s probably best for me to say from the start that Takao had a happy childhood, with adoring parents, a teasing older brother and a grandfather that acted way too young for his age. But, no one can grow in perfect harmony, and that’s how the story starts: his parents were in love, but his mother was in a battle with her body and ultimately lost. With his mother gone, his father threw himself in his work and left home one day and never came back, but what was worse was that he took Takao’s older brother with him. Takao, still a young boy, was left in the world with no one but his grandfather, however energetic, to take care of him.

Fast forward to Takao, age twelve going on thirteen. He’s a perfectly normal pre-adolescent; that is, he prefers play to work, games to studies, and smug as can be. Teen years are known for being the start of trouble, though, and as good a kid as he honestly is, Takao is no exception. An act of honor and pride leads him to meet a young man his age, and they butt heads constantly as they keep being forced to cooperate. But a truth, a grim truth, comes out about this other boy, and Takao, who has somehow grown fond of him in an odd way, refuses to let him go it alone. Reluctantly, at first, the other allows him, but in time it becomes apparent to onlookers that this is not really all that healthy. Why? Because Takao lets this dear friend of his get away with just about everything, even if he doesn’t take the guy’s bad attitude.

Now, by this point in time, Takao’s aged a few years and his vagabond father and older brother are now actually visiting regularly, and they see the happy-go-lucky boy they care for so become more and more clingy and sulky when any of his friends ignore him. And, obviously, they’re worried, because they know he wasn’t like that before.

Thus, despite his loud protests and pleas to stay home, they agree to ship him off to Malaise, where they hope he’ll return as he once was, before that “friend” of his became so embedded in his life.
